Located in the Heart of Harney County, Oregon, Crystal Crane Hot Springs offers an unforgettable experience you won't find anywhere else! Whether you're here for a romantic getaway or a family trip, we have something to offer any type of traveler.

Soak in the Hot Springs, relax in your own private soaking tub, or enjoy a variety of overnight accommodations and offerings. There's something for everyone at Crystal Crane Hot Springs!

We stumbled upon this place on the road back from our camp hosting in Cougar, WA.  We had been on the road overnight after staying a very cold night on Mt. Hood at Government Camp.  Tired after the craziness of closing up camp for the season and two days of driving, we made a snap decision to turn into the Crystal Crane Campground.  What a great decision that was!

At first glance, this is not much too look at.  It was a bit muddy, the hook-up sites were very close together, and the developed tent sites were in a very small loop. There were several small buildings, one long building with hotel style rooms, and two teepees.  After a small tussle over our campsite with another camper, we changed sites and settled in before sunset.

As the evening fell, it became clear we had inadvertently stumbled across a real gem.  We went for an evening soak in the pond as the mist rose in plumes around us.  The night sky was brilliant with a clear view of the milky way.  Coots, starlings, and ducks had nestled into the warm adjoining pond and made soft noises along with frogs and crickets.

We woke the next morning and went for our coffee and muffins in the main guest hall.  The staff was helpful and friendly.  We noticed that the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge was nearby - this is one of the best birding areas in the country!  It was also made famous a few years ago via a militant takeover.  There are several outfitters in the area for other activities such as jeep rides and hiking experiences.  We had fallen hard for the place and it took almost no convincing whatsoever to re-up our site for another night.

If your path takes you through the Oregon desert or through the Bend area, make sure you take in the waters at Crystal Crane Hot Springs.  The water is hot but comfortable.  Guests can be in the large pond which stays at around 101 degrees and measures about seven feet deep in the center.  There are private tub options in the rooms, teepees, or public bathouse.  We can't wait to return to this amazing spot in Oregon!

Well this week sees us back in one of our very favorite states - New Mexico - and absolutely one of our favorite mountain ranges, the Sangre de Cristo mountains near Taos. Although we can barely breath up here it still feels like a load is lifted when you step out and gasp for that first deep breath of mountain air.  Gorgeous.
